A FLEETING THOUGHT
One reason for the decline in moral values is that the world has invented a new, constantly changing, and undependable standard of moral conduct referred to as "situational ethics." Now, individuals define good and evil as being according to each situation; this is in direct contrast to the proclaimed God-given absolute standard: "Thou shalt not! --David B. LANDS OF THE BOOK OF MORMON SUPER TRIP
The Book Of Mormon came alive as we explored possible areas where the Mulekites and Jaredites lived. Discovering the local culture, food and arts opened new horizens in our understanding of our neighbors. It was wonderful to feel of the Mexican saint's warmth and spirits. They were incredibly hospitable. Our playtime in Acapulco was too fun to put into words!
When: June 17 - June 24, 2000
Itinerary:
Saturday - Fly into Mexico City and take a walking tour of downtown.
Sunday - Mexico City! Attend church with the local saints. Visit the National Musuem of Anthropology which houses the finest collection of Mesoamerican artifacts and culture.
Monday - Mexico City/Puebla! Visit amazing Teotihuacan and its massive pyramids. Visit the Mexico City LDS temple. In the afternoon, travel to Puebla where we will visit Cholula - the largest pyramid in the world.
Tuesday - Puebla! Take a guided tour through the old city center of Puebla. We'll visit some of the ornate Catholic churches and an onyx factory for which Puebla is famous. Next we will visit a "Cinco de Mayo" battle site and travel on to the colonial city of Oaxaca.
Wednesday - Mitla/Yagul! Mitla has a wonderful variety of woven goods made by the modern-day Zapotecs. Mitla or "place of the dead" is famous for its elaborate mosiacs and facades. Next we will journey to Yagul and stop at the Tule Tree on the way back to Oaxaca.
Thursday - Oaxaca! Located on top of a hill overlooking Oaxaca, Monte Alban is one of Mexico's largest attractions. Monte Alban began about 500 BC and may have been active during the Mulekite era. We will also visit the regional musuem and the Santo Domingo church. Those who desire may perform baptisms for the dead at the Oaxaca temple.
Friday - Acapulco! Enjoy the beaches, sun and sand! Watch the cliff divers, take a boat tour, particpate in the many water activities available, or shop at the mercados and see the city.
