A FLEETING THOUGHT

American education is but a mirror for our culture. We cannot expect our educational system to be perfect when we ourselves tolerate a growing contempt for work, barbarous music and art, a sensual and sensational press, tawdry drama, and corrupted media of communication. We must fight constantly against the rising obscenity and growing vulgarity of our society.
-- Ernest L. Wilkinson (BYU Faculty Workshop, September 18, 1962)
